TOLSTOY’S PHILOSOPHY TO THE CHALLENGES OF DIGITAL SOCIETY This article examines literature as a philosophical space for cultural adaptation of the personality, tracing it from the ideas of L. N. Tolstoy to the realities of digital society. The aim of the study is to identify the mechanisms by which literary text mediates between individual consciousness and collective cultural experience, shaping identity and ensuring the assimilation of values. Based on the philosophy of culture, the authors argue that literature serves as a special space for meaning- making, in which the personality not only embraces otherness and becomes rooted in tradition, but also integrates cultural meanings into their own existence. The scientific novelty of this work lies in comparison of L. N. Tolstoy’s concept of art as an “infection with feelings” and the moral transformation of an individual, with the challenges of digital age, characterized by clip-based thinking, the authorial boundaries blurring, and changing forms of textual perception. The article proposes to consider literature as a historical institution of education and moral guidance, as well as a dynamic cultural practice capable of adapting to media transformations while maintaining its mission. The results demonstrate that, despite the crisis of traditional reading and the threat of superficial medialization of experience, literature continues to fulfill a key function in the cultural adaptation of the personality. In the 21st century, it retains its status as a unique medium, connecting people through shared feelings and the humanistic guidelines necessary for preserving personal integrity in the context of global digitalization.
