Survivalism in culture The survival film is a type of movie where one or more characters try to survive in challenging circumstances. These movies often present characters who face deadly risks to their lives. Survival films investigate human determination to survive, the goals of individuals, and what they desire most, which helps viewers reflect on uni- versal values and what it means to be human. These films blend realism with a sense of slow-burning suspense to create a tense atmosphere. Although some survival films may feature grand scales and feature extensive pacing, their impact stems from creat- ing an ambience in which every plot twist holds a hidden danger to the character's life, and every moment poses a passive threat to his or her existence.
